Following their involvement in the recent Europa EV Rally, SIXT UK is joining the Explorer EV Rally to test their electric fleet on home turf and demonstrate their role in supporting sustainable mobility across the UK.

Following your involvement in the recent Europa EV Rally, please could you tell us why you decided to participate in the UK version?

Following our successful involvement in the Europa EV Rally earlier this year – a multi-country, 1,300km event showcasing EV charging infrastructure – we saw a unique opportunity to build on that momentum here in the UK.

For SIXT, it’s a natural extension of our commitment to driving premium mobility, highlighting our integrated charging solution and client experience in a fresh environment.

The Explorer EV Rally gives us the chance to put our electric fleet to the test on home turf. It’s not just about getting from A to B but showcasing the real-world viability of EVs and the role we can play in supporting mobility across the UK.

Please tell us about team SIXT - who will be driving and in what vehicles?

We will have two SIXT teams which will be made up of representatives from our UK Head Office and operations teams, who are all passionate about EVs and innovation. They’ll be driving fully electric BMW iX1 models representing both our premium fleet proposition and the growing customer demand for the latest EV options.

Did you learn anything from your time on the Europa EV Rally that will help you get through the Explorer EV Rally with ease?

Absolutely. The Europa Rally highlighted the ease of smart charging and how to make the most of EV range, especially across varied terrain. It also reaffirmed the value of driver education and tech-enabled infrastructure. Those learnings have helped us refine how we prepare our teams, support our drivers, and ensure a seamless EV experience—lessons we’re now applying to the Explorer route.

You are hosting a checkpoint on the rally - what can teams expect there?

Yes we are. As our Managing Director for SIXT van & truck UK explains: "We’re excited to be hosting a checkpoint along the way at SIXT Van and Truck in Manchester – one of our key UK locations for commercial vehicle rental. Teams stopping by can expect a warm welcome from the SIXT van & truck team and a showcase of our electric cars and vans. It’s a chance for drivers to pit-stop with refreshments and entertainment while seeing what the future of rental mobility looks like."

The rally will be visiting many innovative clean energy projects on route - how important is innovation and clean energy in the EV transition?

Innovation and clean energy are essential. The Explorer EV Rally reflects this by spotlighting solar and wind projects, while also addressing areas where charging infrastructure is still developing.
