Elan Valley
Elan Valley

Nestled at the gateway to the Cambrian Mountains, in Mid Wales, the Elan Valley offers a unique blend of breathtaking scenery, rich heritage and outdoor adventure. Spanning around 72 square miles of reservoirs, dams and unspoilt Welsh countryside, this remarkable landscape invites visitors to slow down, explore and reconnect with nature.

Over 200,000 people visit the Elan Valley Estate and Visitor Centre each year, travelling from across the UK and around the world. Owned and operated by Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water, the Elan Valley is not only one of Wales' most popular visitor destinations but also plays a vital role in supplying drinking water to Birmingham, South East Wales and the surrounding areas. Since the opening of the dams and reservoirs in the early 1900s, the estate has combined its essential water management function with opportunities for recreation, education and tourism.

The Elan Valley is more than just a beautiful destination. Sustainability and environmental stewardship are woven into our identity, with a strong focus on protecting the water supply, wildlife and natural habitats for future generations.

Recognised as an International Dark Sky Park, the area benefits from exceptionally low levels of light pollution, creating some of the darkest skies in the world. On a clear night, visitors can gaze up at a dazzling canopy of stars, making the Elan Valley as magical after dark as it is by day.
